All Saints Catholic College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff, governors, visitors and volunteers to share this commitment.

All Saints Catholic College fully recognises its responsibilities for child protection.

Due to the day to day contact with children, school staff are well placed to observe the outward signs of abuse. All Saints seeks to do all that it can to protect every child from abuse of any kind. It does this in accordance with:

  • The DfE document ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children- a guide to inter-agency working to safeguard and promote the welfare of children’

and

  • Statutory guidance for schools and colleges -  ‘ Keeping Children Safe in Education’ as well as the responsibilities, regulations and procedures determined by Tameside Safeguarding Children Board (which all staff have been instructed to read)

Safeguarding responsibilities apply to staff, governors, visitors and volunteers working in the school.


All Saints Safeguarding Commitment

All Saints Catholic College will therefore:


Establish and maintain an environment where all children feel secure, and encouraged to talk and be listened to.


Ensure children know that there are adults in the school whom they can approach if they are worried.


Include opportunities in the school curriculum and Collective Worship programme for children to develop the skills they need to recognise and stay safe from abuse.


If you have any concerns that a student is being harmed or at risk of harm or you receive a disclosure (intentionally or unintentionally) you MUST contact one of the following staff members.

Confidentiality and Information Sharing

The Headteacher or designated member of staff (DSL) discloses any information about a pupil to others on a ‘need to know’ basis only.

All staff and volunteers must understand that they have a professional responsibility to share information with other agencies in order to safeguard children. All staff and volunteers must be clear with children that they cannot promise to keep secrets.

If a child discloses any information to a staff member or volunteer that must be shared with the DSL on that same day. If the DSL is unavailable they are to approach the deputy safeguarding personnel.

If a parent and those in our community are worried about a child then they are asked to contact school and speak to the Safeguarding Team (see Key Staff above).
