What are Cookies and how do we use them?

‘Cookies’ are small pieces of information that are stored by your chosen browser (e.g. Chrome, Internet Explorer or Safari) on your computer or mobile phone.

They allow websites to store such things as user preferences. You can think of cookies as providing a ‘memory’ for the website, enabling it to recognise a user and respond appropriately.

The law which applies to how cookies and similar technologies are used for storing information on a user’s equipment such as their computer or mobile device changed on 26 May 2011. You can get detailed information on the new EU cookie law (e-Privacy Directive) from The Commissioner responsible for administering the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000:

Our website does not use cookies of any sort to store any personal information.

Behind the scenes of our website we use a Content Management System called WordPress. We chose WordPress for our website as it helps us to keep our website up-to-date and relevant for you. WordPress, and therefore our website, requires two cookies to be set by the names ‘wp-settings’ and ‘wp-settings-time’ in order for you to use it.

Google Maps

In the Contact Us and Directions section of our website we embed a Google Map to show the location of our College. When you view this embedded Google Map, Google will set cookies on your computer.

YouTube

We use our official YouTube channel to publish videos online. We usually embed these videos on our website in news stories and on certain pages. When you watch an embedded YouTube video on our website, YouTube will set cookies on your computer.
