The Catering Staff, under the management of Mellors Catering Services, work very hard to maintain the quality and variety of meals with every effort being made to respond to students’ requests.
The Dining Hall is open for Breakfast in the mornings before the College Day begins (from 8.30 a.m.) until the end of break at 11.30 a.m. and for lunch between 12.30 p.m. and 2.00 p.m. A biometric system of payment is in operation.

If you wish your child to bring a packed lunch then this should be eaten in the Main Hall and not on the main yard. No food or drink can be taken out of the Dining Hall and eaten elsewhere. The College strongly discourages pupils bringing ‘fizzy’ drinks onto the premises. Water is always the healthy option. Please try to give your child a healthy variety each day and encourage them to eat fruit rather than sweets.
The lunch break does not give time for your child to go home for lunch and they must stay on the College site so we can supervise them. This will ensure that they are on time for afternoon lessons.
Free School Meals
From November 2012, the assessment of eligibility for free school meals moves from Children, Learning and Economic services to Exchequer and Community Services.
The advantages of this change are as follows:
- The application for free school meals will be part of a Housing Benefit/Council Tax Benefit claim. This means the parent/carer will only make one application to the council for all council benefits.
- Exchequer services will be able to identify parents/carers who are eligible for free school meals and not claiming. Parents will be encouraged to take up free school meals or at least have their eligibility registered.
- The need for annual renewals will end in most cases as Exchequer Services will have information about claim start and end dates directly from source.
All applications are treated in the strictest confidence. Please claim if you are eligible and if you are unsure don’t hesitate to contact Gill McFadden, Finance Director for confidential advice and guidance. Application forms can be obtained via the Local Authority website: tameside.gov.uk
Today, some of our students are visiting University of Leeds as part of the The Brilliant Club Scholars Programme
It is an award-winning charity that exists to increase the number of pupils progressing to highly-selective universities. They do this by mobilising the PhD community to share its academic expertise with state schools.
